Decoding The IGI Report

Decoding The IGI Report

Introduction Transparency is the ultimate luxury. When you invest in a piece of fine jewelry, you deserve to know exactly what you are buying. This is why every significant diamond we offer is accompanied by a grading report from the International Gemological Institute (IGI)—the global authority on lab-grown diamond certification. Think of this report as your diamond's official identity card.

1. The Report Number & Laser Inscription At the very top of your report, you will find a unique Report Number. This is the most critical detail for verification.

  • The Match: This same number is microscopically laser-inscribed onto the girdle (the edge) of your diamond.

  • How to Verify: Using a jeweler’s loupe, you can see this number on the stone itself, confirming that the diamond in your hand matches the report perfectly.

2. Description: "Laboratory Grown" Right below the header, the report explicitly states the species and variety of the gem. You will see the phrase "Laboratory Grown Diamond."

  • What this means: This confirms the stone is real diamond (carbon crystal), not a simulant like moissanite. It certifies that the stone possesses the exact same chemical and optical properties as a mined diamond, created ethically without mining.

3. The 4Cs Grading Results This section is the "scorecard" of your diamond's quality:

  • Carat Weight: The precise weight of the stone.

  • Color Grade: Rated from D (Colorless) to Z. We curate stones in the coveted D-F range for an icy, colorless appearance.

  • Clarity Grade: The map of internal features. Look for VS or higher, ensuring the stone is clean to the naked eye.

  • Cut Grade: The measure of light performance. An "Ideal" or "Excellent" grade here guarantees your diamond has maximum fire and brilliance.

4. The Comments Section: The Science At the bottom left, under "Comments," you might see technical terms like "CVD" (Chemical Vapor Deposition) or "HPHT" (High Pressure High Temperature).

  • Type IIa: You may also see a note saying "Type IIa." This is a mark of distinction. Type IIa diamonds are the purest form of carbon, devoid of nitrogen impurities. Less than 2% of mined diamonds qualify as Type IIa, yet many high-quality lab-grown diamonds fall into this elite category.

Conclusion: Buy with Confidence Understanding your IGI report empowers you to make a choice based on facts, not just feelings. It is our promise of integrity, ensuring that the sparkle you see is backed by rigorous international standards.
