Jewelry Care Guide

Caring for your jewelry should feel effortless, not overwhelming. Here is the secret to keeping your treasures looking as breathtaking as the day you first wore them.

Whether you have just treated yourself to a dream piece from Highline Diamond or received a sentimental ring, pendant, or pair of earrings, it is only natural to want to protect that sparkle. Questions like "How often should I clean it?" or "Should I remove it before bed?" are common.

At Highline Diamond, we believe that fine jewelry is an investment in beauty and memory. We’ve curated this guide to ensure your precious pieces continue to shine with the same brilliance that first captured your heart.

The Art of the At-Home Cleanse

While we always recommend a professional deep clean to ensure the utmost safety, maintaining that "just-out-of-the-box" glow at home is simple with these five steps.

Step 1: The Soak

Begin by placing your jewelry in a small bowl filled with a high-quality jewelry cleaning solution or mild, fragrance-free dish soap mixed with warm water. Let it soak for approximately 10 minutes. This gentle immersion loosens oils and daily buildup.

Step 2: The Gentle Polish

After soaking, use a soft-bristled brush to delicately cleanse the piece. Pay special attention to the underside of the stones and the intricate "hidden" crevices where residue tends to linger.

Step 3: The Rinse

Rinse your jewelry thoroughly under warm, running water. This step is essential; even the finest cleaning agents can leave behind a film that may cause skin irritation or dull the stone's fire if not fully removed.

Step 4: The Drying Ritual

Using a plush microfiber or lint-free cotton cloth, gently pat your jewelry dry. We recommend doing this over a soft, flat surface to avoid any accidental slips or drops.

Step 5: The Final Touch

Once completely dry, store your jewelry in its dedicated Highline Diamond pouch—or, better yet, wear it immediately and let its brilliance shine.

When to Remove: Protecting Your Investment

Home is where your jewelry spends most of its time. To keep your pieces pristine, know when it is best to set them aside.

  • In the Shower: Absolutely remove your jewelry. Soaps, shampoos, and conditioners leave a dulling residue over time. Furthermore, slippery fingers increase the risk of a ring sliding off and vanishing down the drain—a tragedy no cherished jewel should face.

  • While Sleeping: Fine jewelry isn’t designed for the nightly tossing and turning of sleep. To prevent delicate chains from tangling or prongs from snagging on linens, place your pieces on a bedside jewelry dish before you drift off.

  • The "Last On, First Off" Rule: Your jewelry should be the last thing you put on in the morning (after perfume, hairspray, and lotion) and the first thing you take off at night.

Professional Maintenance

The Routine Check-up

Just as you prioritize your own health, your jewelry needs a professional "wellness check." Highline Diamond recommends a professional inspection at least once a year. Our experts will ensure prongs remain perfectly aligned, stones are secure, and clasps are free from wear.

Polishing & Rhodium Plating

Polishing is essential for maintaining exquisite clarity. For white gold pieces, a professional polish and re-application of Rhodium plating every 1–2 years will restore that signature mirror-like finish.

Chemicals: The Invisible Enemy

Throughout the day, your jewelry encounters harsh substances: sanitizers, sunscreens, and household cleaners. Prolonged exposure can diminish brilliance and even compromise the integrity of the metal. If exposure is unavoidable, a quick professional cleaning at Highline Diamond can help restore the original luster.
