ENGAGEMENT RING GUIDANCE
October 12, 2026 · HIGHLINE DIAMOND · 5 minute read

Your choice of metal shapes the way your ring looks, feels and fits into your life. Our ring collection offers 9K, 14K and 18K gold, as well as platinum. Start with gold purity, then consider the colour, budget and care that suit you.
9K Gold: An understated beginning

37.5% pure gold
A considered choice for your first fine-jewellery piece. 9K gold contains 37.5% pure gold, blended with other metals to create an alloy suitable for jewellery. It offers the character of real gold at a more accessible price, leaving more room in your budget for the diamond or design you love.
Choose 9K when value is your priority. Its appearance depends on the alloy and the colour you select; a lower gold content does not mean a ring is immune to scratches or wear.
14K Gold: A beautiful balance

Approximately 58.5% pure gold
14K gold brings together precious gold content and an approachable price. Made with approximately 58.5% pure gold, it is a versatile option for an engagement ring that becomes part of your everyday life.
Choose 14K for a balance of gold content and budget. As with every precious metal, the ring’s design, alloy and how you wear it all influence its durability.
18K Gold: Rich in character

75% pure gold
With 75% pure gold, 18K places a greater emphasis on the precious metal itself. In yellow gold, this higher gold content often gives a richer, warmer appearance. White and rose gold offer different expressions of the same purity.
Choose 18K when a higher gold content matters to you. It still deserves thoughtful care: higher purity does not automatically mean greater resistance to scratching.
Platinum: Naturally white. Quietly distinctive.

Pt950 · At least 95% pure platinum
At HIGHLINE DIAMOND, we use Pt950 platinum, containing at least 95% pure platinum.
Platinum is a different precious metal from gold, rather than a colour or karat of gold. Its naturally white appearance offers a clean, cool setting for a diamond and a substantial feel on the hand.
Choose platinum if you love a naturally white metal. Over time, surface marks can develop into a soft patina; professional polishing can refresh the finish. Like gold, platinum can scratch and should be treated with care.
